HEALTH &
WELLBEING
Forward is committed to assisting students with their psychical, mental and social health and well-being. We confess that we're not a team of medical professionals but as a student body, a Forward-led ANUSA can help make a big impact with the professional advice and support from medical professionals within our community. If elected, Forward will:
1) Expand ANUSA's partnership with the National Health Co-op to increase accessibility to general practitioners and psychologists.
2) Simplify ANUSA's application process for the medical grant.
3) Mandate that Healthcare providers distribute copies of the Australian Charter of Healthcare Rights. This will also apply to student's seeking ANU Counseling.
4) Establish a mental health ambassadorship program to complement the mental health committee.
5) Develop a comprehensive mental health strategy to assist struggling students through a combination of virtual and (when social distancing restrictions ease) in-person initiatives.
6) Evaluate and propose several sites within ANU as a 'designated smoking area'. Forward recognises the need to balance the needs of students with respiratory issues and the safety of smokers. ANU's proposed hard ban would place Smoking students under a larger amount of stress and could invoke them to take unnecessary risks. Any proposed site must be well lit and ventilated.
7) Promote awareness of mental health through promotional days and events, Including the observation of the UN International day of happiness.
